TATA IPL 2022 – Match No 4 – Gujarat Titans wins against Lucknow Super Giants - Ayush Badoni first to score 50 on debut in IPL
The cricketing world expected Match No 4 of TATA IPL 2022 to be an interesting one. No doubt, the teams of Lucknow and Gujarat are new but many of the players have already played in the Indian Premier League under different franchise. They have now donned new colors. Lucknow has KL Rahul in the role of captain plus wicket keeper. He was earlier in Punjab Kings. Similarly, Hardik Pandya was in Mumbai Indians and is now the captain of Gujarat Titans. The venue of clash was Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Gujarat Titans won their inaugural match against fellow newbie Lucknow Super Giants. Gujarat won the toss and sent Lucknow in to bat. Lucknow lost early wickets and were 109 for 4 after 15 overs. Deepak Hooda was LBW to Rashid Khan when on 55. He had hit 2 sixers. Ayush Badoni made 54 before he fell to Varun Arun. He hit 3 sixers. He created history by becoming the first batsman in IPL to score a 50 on debut. Lucknow could score 158 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. It must have been far below their expectations.
In reply, Gujarat made 161 for 5 in 19.4 overs. Rahulia Tewatia top scored with 40 n.o. Hardik Pandya made 33 while Matthew Wade and David Miller chopped in with 30 runs each. Gujarat Titans hit 5 sixers. Mohammad Shami took 3 wickets to become Player of the Match.

TATA IPL 2022 – KKR beats CSK in Match No. 1
The inaugural match of TATA IPL 2022 was between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. KKR won the toss, asked CSK to bat first, and won the match. Both teams had new captains. Ravindra Jadeja was captain of CSK and Shreas Iyer was captain of KKR. In hindsight, it seems Jadeja could have innovated and tried to win the match. He could have brought in Dwayne Bravo a bit earlier and the score might have been more respectable. That might have helped. However, what is done cannot be undone.
The first match of TATA IPL 2022 went to KKR. CSK put up a very low score of 131 and its opener Rituraj Gaikwad perished for a duck. His partner followed him after a few balls and others put up a gallant fight. The 50 not out of M. S. Dhoni showed he can still play his shots but the bowlers of KKR kept bowling dot balls. Umesh Yadav got 2 wickets while Varun Chakravorty and Andre Russel got one wicket each. It was certainly not the sort of start CSK wanted.
Anyway, KKR ensured a win with 9 balls left in spite of the bowling of Dwayne Bravo. He got three wickets for 20 runs. The wickets were of Venkatesh Iyer, Sam Billings and Nitish Rana. Man of the Match was Umesh Yadav for his 2 for 20.
