TATA IPL 2022 – newcomer Gujarat Titans tops the points table after Match no 25

T20 cricket is unpredictable and no team can imagine the upsets that can turn a match on its head. Until now, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings shared the honors but this time, they have become also-rans. The former lost all the five matches they played, the latter won only one match out of five. In contrast, Gujarat Titans, a newcomer, won 4 of the 5 matches they played. Lucknow Super Giants, another newcomer, won 3 of the 5 matches it played so far. The composition of these teams was of a few old timers who had represented other franchises earlier. They have with them others promising players and, together they are on a roll.

One probable factor for the state of affairs in IPL 2022 could be restriction on the venues. This means the teams lose the direct support of their local fans. The players also lose out on variety in their lifestyles vis-à-vis cuisine, sightseeing etcetera. Moreover, many of the teams lost some of their most coveted players in the auction. These teams had to rebuild their teams. Let us hope the competition becomes more tense as the stalwarts buckle up their belts and try to prove their worth.
