Indian movies ‘Court’ and ‘Kadambari’ shine in South Asian Film Festival


Bengali actress 34-year-old Konkona Sen Sharma has won the best actress award for ‘Kadambari’ and ‘Court’ which is India’s official Oscars entry bagged the best director trophy for Chaitanya Tamhane at the South Asian Film Festival in New York. It is his debut venture.

The Bengali movie ‘Kadambari’ walked away with two major awards at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival – one of these was the best film honor and the other, the best actress trophy which was won by Konkona Sen Sharma.
‘Kadambari’ is directed by Suman Ghosh and also stars Parambrata Chatterjee – it is based on the life of late poet Rabindranath Tagore and his controversial relationship with his sister-in-law Kadambari Devi.
‘Court’ is a poignant commentary on India’s judicial system and, besides being sent for 88th Oscars as the country’s nominee in the best foreign film category, it won the National Award for the best movie, earlier this year.
