Dame Julie Andrews to direct new ‘My Fair Lady’ in Sydney for 60th birthday of Opera Australia

British actress Dame Julie Andrews is reported to be directing a new production of “My Fair Lady” for Opera Australia. It will be premiered at the Sydney Opera House in August 2016 on the occasion of 60th birthday celebrations of Opera Australia.
This has been reported in indianexpress.com dated 5 August 2015.
This has been announced by Opera Australia’s artistic director, Lyndon Terracini. He has also added that the Tony Award-winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli would also be part of the creative team.
Julie Andrews is now 79-years-old and became famous when she portrayed the role of Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle in the 1956 Broadway production, opposite Rex Harrison. That was her second Broadway role and one that helped launch her career.
Later, she went on to win an Academy award for her performance in Mary Poppins and was nominated for her roles in “The Sound of Music” and “Victor/Victoria”.
In the opinion of Lyndon Terracini, a new My Fair Lady is expected to capture the magic of the world’s greatest musical for a new generation of classic musical lovers.
The story of “My Fair Lady” is based on the story ‘Pygmalion’ of George Bernard Shaw and is the story of the flower girl mentored by Professor Henry Higgins and transformed into a society lady.
