Manoj Bajpai starrer ‘Aligarh’ to be screened at 59th BFI London Film Festival


National Award-winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta’s film ‘Aligarh’ starring Manoj Bajpai and Rajkummar Rao to be screened at the 59th BFI London Film Festival. It will be treated as part of the Festival’s Debate strand: ‘Riveting films that amplify, scrutinize and surprise’.

The movie is based on a real incident that happened in Uttar Pradesh, where a professor (Manoj Bajpai) is suspended by his University for being gay after he is caught on camera in a sting operation. This incident was broken by a young journalist (Rajkummar Rao) and the two strike an unlikely friendship that changes them forever.
Clare Stewart, BFI London Film Festival Director has revealed that the film was found to be daring and strong and the story was an incredibly important one that London audiences will definitely respond.
‘Aligarh’ will have its world premiere at the forthcoming Busan International Film Festival.
