Uttar Pradesh celebrates Holi, the festival of colors, to welcome spring

Holi is an Indian festival where colors play the most important role. The celebrations go on for two days. People throw colors, share sweets, and delicious eatables to welcome spring. The first day known as the Holika Dahan is about a ritual of lighting a fire and throwing branches of trees and other unwanted items into the flames. The next day full Moon night is Holi. Last couple of years, the Covid-19 pandemic led to celebrations on a low scale.

Uttar Pradesh is famous for its Holi in Mathura and Vrindaban. These have links to Lord Krishna, hence devotees travel from distant places to participate. The temples organize innumerable events to celebrate the colorful festival. Some of these events are unparalled in the country and have propelled Mathura to the must-visit place during Holi. Another city is Vrindavan. Here, all the action is in the Banke Bihari Temple. This city is another must-visit place during Holi. Here the festivities go on for a week with different variations.

Both Mathura and Vrindaban are easily accessible by rail, road and air and there are any number of hotels.
