Dance bars can operate again in Mumbai, bar girls happy

In 2005, dance performances in bars of the state of Maharashtra were banned, but three-star and five-star hotels were kept out of the purview of the Act. As a result, hundreds of girls who worked in the bars and earned a living by dancing lost their jobs.
The Supreme Court has, now, stayed the ban on dance bars across the state and this order will restore the livelihood of bar dancers and reopen dance bars. This would come as a major relief for bar girls and owners of dance bar owners in Maharashtra.

The state government has defended the amended law on dance bars and has said that the government still has the right to regulate to ensure there is no obscenity. This is as per directives of the apex court who has given power to licensing authorities to regulate indecent dance performances.
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has welcomed the move and feels it is wrong to put a blanket ban on all dance bars. There will be rules and regulations to check on indecency. Shakti Kapoor, an actor of yesteryear feels dance bars are a means of livelihood for many girls and the cops need to have an eye on all the dance bars.

The film is about five calendar girls and their journey through the world of calendars. There are the good and bad parts and it is not about expose and bikini but about performance.
As he explains, he got the idea of making a film on calendar models when he came across Vijay Mallya’s annual calendar. He went deep into their lives and realized that almost 99 per cent (of calendar girls career) are failure and only one per cent can succeed.
He, then, interacted with several calendar girls and, while some were forthcoming to talk about it, others were reluctant.
About the story of his film - it is story of five girls from different cities and how their life shapes up after they pursue career as calendar girls.
The stars are Ruhi Singh (Winner, Miss Universal Peace and Humanity, 2014), model-actress Avani Modi, Akanksha Puri (Airhostess-model-actress), Kyra Dutt (Kingfisher calendar girl) and Satarupa Pyne (model-actress).
