Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila to perform in Kolkata to mark Vijay Diwas


Celebrated Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila and a host of other artistes is scheduled to perform at a mega event organized by the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata from December 15 to mark Vijay Diwas that commemorates the liberation war and independence in 1971.
On the occasion, the “Bangladesh Bijoy Utsob” program would be the Netaji Indoor Stadium in the city - the program would go on till December 19 with the support of the West Bengal government.

Other artistes who will share the stage with Runa Laila would be Arian, Kusthia’s Lalan group, Krishnakali. The events will highlight Nazrul giti, Rabindra Sangeet, Baulgan, Lalan giti, Sufi, Bangla band. Films will also be screened on the occasion as indicated by the first secretary (press) at the Commission.
And, of course, there will be the country’s signature products like Dhakai jamdani, Rajsahi’s silk and ceramics. Food stalls showcasing kacchi biriyani, bhuna khichri and pitha (deserts) will also be there.

Big B attends 21st Kolkata International Film Festival at Netaji Indoor Stadium


Amitabh Bachchan graced the occasion of opening the Kolkata International Film Festival, India's second oldest movie fest, in Netaji Indoor Stadium. The event was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and apart from movie icon Amitabh Bachchan, others who attended were actress Vidya Balan and yesteryear stars Sharmila Tagore, Jaya Bachchan and Mousumi Chatterjee.
The jam-packed Netaji Indoor Stadium watched the screen giants raise a toast to the cinema as reported in business-standard.com dated 14 November 2015.
The tune of the magical evening was set by fusion music and classical music performed by percussionist Bickram Ghosh, classical music vocalist Rashid Khan and singer Indranil Sen.
Sharmila Tagore, who is heading the jury which will select the best film and director from among 14 short-listed entries by women filmmakers.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, in her speech, extended invitation to Bollywood to shoot in West Bengal.

Music legend A R Rehman to meet football legend Pele in Kolkata


It will be a meeting of Titans when music legend A R Rehman meets up with Brazilian football legend Pele on October 12. A R Rehman, Academy Award winner, famous for his song ‘Jai Ho’ is creating music for Pele’s biopic ‘Pele: Birth of a Legend’. He will jet down to Kolkata to meet the 74-year-old football legend and be a part of the Legends Night at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
Also present on the occasion would be West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Pele’s birthday falls on October 23 and Rehman would sing him a birthday song and would use this occasion to discuss his biopic.
Pele, three-time FIFA World Cup winner, would be arriving in the city on October 11. Among his itinerary are attending Indian Super League (ISL) defending champions Atletico de Kolkata’s home game against the Kerala Blasters. He will then be the guest of honor two days later.
