Naomie Harris gets Oscar nomination in the best-supporting actress category for Moonlight

Naomie Harris (40) has bagged an Oscar nomination in the best-supporting actress category for Moonlight and has revealed that she was not willing to portray the role of a crack addict in the Barry Jenkins-directed drama. In the movie, she is in the role of a crack addict, Paula.
The reason of why she was reluctant to do such a role was that she did not want to perpetuate a negative stereotype about “black women”.
This has been reported in indianexpress.com dated 3 February 2017.
Naomie did not want to play the role of a crack addict. But, she is now proud to have portrayed the character of Paula in the film. Moonlight has along with Naomi Harris bagged seven nominations at this year’s Academy Awards. In her words, acting as Paula in Moonlight, Naomie was quite comfortable on set. The reason was that she was like the polar opposite to her.
