Spielberg is 68-years-old and he hoped one day to make it to an Indiana Jones V before Harrison Ford turned 80. Ford is now 73-year-old and had survived crash-landing of his vintage World War II trainer plane on a Santa Monica golf course in March.
He is already due to appear as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens which is set for release on 17 December.
Of course, there were rumors that Shia LaBeouf, who played Indiana Jones' sidekick in the most recent Indiana Jones film, the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull in 2008, might don the mantle of the hero.
However, Spielberg's latest comments that he made in the course of an interview about his latest film, Cold War thriller Bridge Of Spies would tend to indicate that Ford could make a comeback.
Incidentally, Frank Marshall, the producer on the films, had confirmed that the role will only ever be played by Ford.
